Fans of architecture and design watch out! You have the unique opportunity to spend an adventure night in the UNESCO Visitor Center of the Fagus Factory! The founder of the Bauhaus, Walter Gropius, designed the factory as young architect already in 1911. Are you impressed with the clear lines and purist design of glass, steel and stone? You can exclusively discover the huge exhibition building after the exhibition has officially closed in the evening. Besides original furniture from the Bauhaus workshops, you can also see the exhibition "100 years of footwear fashion".  Haven't you always wanted to know which shoes Angela Merkel wore on international floors or which elegant pumps decorated the feet of supermodel Claudia Schiffer? And when you have discovered everything, you can sleep in the stylish and extremely comfortable sleep cube of the sleeperoo – also a masterstroke of design!

Your spot - Fagus Factory

Alfeld is located 50 kilometres in the south of Hannover, Germany. The Fagus Factory, in which products are still manufactured, is recognised as World Heritage site. It is a living monument of architectural history. Imagine the Imperial Era around 1910/1911. The architecture of that time was opulent and full of ornateness. In contrast, factory buildings mostly had small windows; the halls were dark and unfriendly. The experienced entrepreneur Carl Benscheidt had visions ahead of his time: His employees should work in clean, light-flooded rooms. Benscheidt knew already at that time that not the machinery was the wealth of his company, but the people working in it. He met the young architect Walter Gropius and together they developed the concept for the new building of the Fagus Factory. The building was trendsetting for the later Bauhaus architecture and it is surprisingly contemporary still today, more than 100 years later.
